About Nissa

Hi! I’m ‘nissa_loves_cats’. I also go by Morgan Q, Inae Kyo and Mary Kehoe, among other things. I’ve had to keep my legal name private because of various considerations.

I have Asperger Syndrome. I wasn’t diagnosed until later life. In school people just thought I was behaving badly, though many of my schools made me go to see a mental health professional.

I have always been a reader. I remember being a very little girl and reading the comics page and editorial page of the newspaper (they had ‘Peanuts’ comic on the editorial page and I soon started on reading the other contents of the page.) I also remember being in school and having to share a textbook with the person sitting next to me. I would read the page over and over before the other person was ready to turn the page.

I am a Christian, and a member of a Bible-based Church— the one founded by Jesus Christ, called the Catholic Church. I was not always Catholic. I’ve been Presbyterian, Lutheran (LCMS), Wiccan, Pagan, LDS (Mormon), Odinist/Asatru, and now, having returned to Christianity after many years away, I am Catholic.

I have always been interested in politics. In my baby book I read that when I was about three I was running around telling people ‘I’m for Kennedy, I’m a Democrat’, referring to JFK. My political perspectives have changed over the years. I’ve been Republican, Democrat, radical feminist, and Marxist at different times. Now I’m old enough to have wised up and I consider myself conservative-libertarian, vote Republican, and have been known to put down ‘prolife’ as my political viewpoint on forms.

I have cats. Lots of cats. Most are barn cats. A few live in the house. Right now I have two elderly born-and-bred barn cats living in the house. Niki, age 11, because she refused to live outdoors any more, and Hermione, probably 13, because she can’t take the tough winter weather any more. I also have Mariska, born in 2005, and two kittens, Julianne and Umberto, in the house. Umberto is pregnant.

Currently I am shifting the focus of this blog (which was and will be pretty unfocussed) to be more about the books I love and obsess over.  I’m also resolved to keep quiet about certain personal things, but to be more open about my beliefs, religious, political and other.

I hope I will find some readers who like what I write about. But if you don’t happen to be interested, that’s OK too.

  1. I’m also a cats person, although i love dogs and other animals. i love them all, but cats are so easy and not demanding. i have never in my life had a friend or a relationship with anyone, except now i have my nieces.
so many aspies write either poetry or fiction, but then the stereotype aspie in the media is always a computer wiz. i also make up stories in my head constantly and daydream.
my goal is to take feral cats home with me. we have millions of them around here, and they’re starving. when i make enough money, i’d take them home. shelters wont take them. i wrote a post about this in my blog.
anyway, who needs people when you can have cats? i’m a crazy cats lady, and proud of it.

  2. I like cats, but my husband doesn’t like pets of any sort so we don’t have any. I like your antimatter explanation–very funny! I live in Olympia, WA, so I guess maybe we were neighbors once…I’ve only been here 8 years though.

  3. You and I have many things in common…I too have have some medical challenges, although mine are more physical…and I’m Catholic and pro-life…and, of course, I’m a Doctor Who fan 🙂 Nice to meet you!

  4. Nice to meet you, Nissan. I’m a West Virginian by birth, liberal Catholic by choice, lover of life and aging baby boomer. I love your blog, understand (as much an outsider can) aspergers, being a former director of a school with many exceptional children., and cannot write haiku to save me!

  5. Hey Nissa. I have dated a man with aspergers. In the end it wasn’t his aspergers but drinking and other stuff that drove us apart. His no-nonsense, laser focus with keen intelligence appealed to me. Like you I’m fond of poetry and cats. Right now I have a songbird though, and as long as he lives, I will have to get my kitty fix from other cat lovers’ homes. I have ADD–without the H, so a lot of teachers thought I was just lazy–and have suffered off and on from serious depression for 35 years. Ever since I was 7 and a half.
I’m not a Catholic though I have read many of the classics such as The Interior Castle, The Dark Night of the Soul, and The Seven-Storey Mountain. I work as a volunteer at a pregnancy center for women who would rather not have abortions, but otherwise might feel they have no choice. My church background is predominantly Church of Christ or Christian Church. The kind that allows pianos.
